community involvementBeing a Zipster isn't just about sharing cars. Our members inspire us to reach out into the community and make a difference. We're proud to be working with organizations that are setting examples around the globe.
Green Streets Initiative
Green Streets Initiative is a Cambridge, MA-based grassroots organization that celebrates sustainable transportation. Their signature event, a monthly Walk/Ride Day, gets commuters on two wheels (or two feet) on the last Friday of every month, year-round. Individuals and organizations figure out ways to go "car-free" or "car-light" in whatever ways they choose. And Zipcar has (of course!) teamed up with Green Streets to be at Walk/Ride Day events, with a few free memberships and driving credit for raffle winners.
Urban Ecology Institute
Your neighborhood is just one piece of the urban ecological puzzle. Make your neighborhood better and, guess what, the rest of the city just might follow. Check out the Urban Ecology Institute where you can become a member, volunteer or donate—a whole bunch of choices to make your heart glow green in ecological bliss.
Driving responsibly takes many forms, as all good Zipsters know. And as a driver, the highest form of community stewardship comes from never drinking and driving. Each year we team up with MADD Massachusetts in support of their fundraising and educational programs.
PAN MASS CHALLENGE
The nation's original bike-a-thon—the Pan Mass Challenge—has one mission: to support cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. Each year we get Zipcar members out there on the road to raise money.
New England Center for Homeless Veterans
Now in its third decade of service, New England Center for Homeless Veterans is a multi-dimension service and care provider dedicated to assisting Veterans who are facing or at-risk of homelessness. The Center offers a broad array of programs and services that enable success, reintegration, meaningful employment and independent living. Open 24/7 and serving male and female Veterans, the Center needs the support of Zipsters like you. You can donate your car to the New England Center for Homeless Veterans as a tax-deductible contribution and receive a special bonus towards Zipcar, like a $300 credit! Just donate your car through one of the Center's car donation partners, send Zipcar a picture of the donated car (with the corresponding tax information), and you'll receive Zipcar benefits while helping the Center continue to provide its range of essential services! Please see http://www.nechv.org/vehicledonation.html for a list of ways to donate your car to New England Center for Homeless Veterans.

The Health Connector
You need health insurance. It's common sense, but the state of Massachusetts now mandates you have it. So get your butt in gear and check out The Massachusetts Health Connector. It's one-stop insurance shopping. They handle the hassles and analyses, you get the plans and prices that fit your needs and budget. Remember, there are state penalties for those that don't have insurance (ouch). Hey, if you're already covered, let your pals know about The Health Connector.
StartingBloc is dedicated to supporting young professionals interested in using business as a tool for social change. Through their fellowship program, StartingBloc works with college students and recent grads to give them the tools to help drive social, economic, and environmental innovation throughout their careers. They partner with businesses, universities, and other organizations that set an example as a force for creating both profit and positive social change. We are proud to support StartingBloc!
Connect with a community that shares your passion for all things green. Your Garden Show is a social network for gardeners, by gardeners that connects greenthumbs with knowledge, tools and resources for sharing inspiration, best practices for sustainability and real-time environmental observation. They believe that more (and better) gardeners help build stronger local communities. And we happen to agree.
