Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana
Girl Scouts' mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character. Girls who make the world a better place. At three million strong, Girl Scouts is the premier leadership organization for girls in the United States. On July 1, 2008, after seven independent local councils merged, Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana launched as part of a national strategy focused on transforming the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and continuing to guide the growth and development of young women.
American Red Cross of Greater Chicago
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
ECOChallenge2020 is an independent advocacy initiative that promotes a healthy lifestyle to teens. Their programs empower students to improve their own health, with a special focus on obesity and diabetes prevention. Kids are provided a platform to speak about their need for healthy options and encouraged to take on local community projects as well as ECOChallenge2020 activities nationwide. Wanna get involved? Open Books is a non-profit social venture that operates an extraordinary bookstore, provides community programs, and mobilizes passionate volunteers to promote literacy in Chicago and beyond.
Peer Health Exchange
The Peer Health Exchange gives teenagers the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy decisions. PHE recruits, selects and trains college students to teach a series of health workshops in public high schools that currently lack comprehensive health education. These schools typically have at least 50% of students living at or below the poverty line and are often missing out on crucial health and wellness information. PHE workshop topics range from sexual health and decision making to substance abuse and nutrition, and help these students make better health choices.
The Greater Chicago Food Depository
The Greater Chicago Food Depository, Chicago's food bank, is a nonprofit food distribution and training center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. The Food Depository distributes donated and purchased food through a network of 600 pantries, soup kitchens and shelters to 500,000 adults and children in Cook County every year.
StartingBloc is dedicated to supporting young professionals interested in using business as a tool for social change. Through their fellowship program, StartingBloc works with college students and recent grads to give them the tools to help drive social, economic, and environmental innovation throughout their careers. They partner with businesses, universities, and other organizations that set an example as a force for creating both profit and positive social change. We are proud to support StartingBloc!
