But after a while, as I learned my destinations and the transit and bike routes, I realized I was using my car less and less. Then I heard about Zipcar. I put my car up for sale and joined. It turned out there was so much demand in my neighborhood that Zipcar needed to add another car. We arrived at the sweetest deal. They placed a Prius in my parking space and gave me driving credit in exchange. So instead of paying for and maintaining my own car, I now have the car of my dreams parked outside: well maintained (by someone else), brand new, environmental, and with a good number of hours of use for free! Member: Josh S. Metro Area: Boston Member Since: November 2002 Average Monthly Bill: $212 I was ready to rid myself of car ownership - and of my 1991 VW golf (which I missed for about five minutes). I donated it to the Aids Action Committee. For doing so, Zipcar paid my annual membership fee, and I got a big tax deduction to boot. I switched to Zipcar because it was less expensive and more efficient than owning a car. I've grouped my driving usage to take advantage of my hours with the car, which is better for the environment and more efficient for me! For instance, today I drove Civic Cecile because it was located closer to where I needed to be after using it. There's also no comparison between driving an 11-year-old car and, let's say, Matrix Marvin, which had under 2,000 miles on it! That was a first for me.
