My husband and I have one working car between us, a massive Ford Econoline E150 van. He is a musician and travels to out-of-town gigs once or twice a month. One day I saw an ad for Zipcar. I checked out the website and joined.
Well, a couple weeks after joining, the van broke down at my son's daycare and we had nowhere to turn. Normally we would have rented a car, which is always a stressful event. There are always so many stipulations: we have to go the airport (which is out of the way) or to our local rental car office (which doesn't open until 8 am). We have to rent the car for a week instead of a day (to get the best rate). We have to have a credit card for the $100-$300 deposit, plus the guilt they put you through if you don't buy their insurance.
Then I remembered the Zipcard in my purse. I went online and easily reserved my first Zipcar. I was a little nervous because I just didn't know what I would find. Would the car be there? Would it be clean? Would it have gas, and does Zipcar really pay for refueling? Well, the answers were yes, yes, yes, and yes, and it drove like a charm. Also, the car was a very cute VW. What a wonderful experience!
