community involvementBeing a Zipster isn't just about sharing cars. Our members inspire us to reach out into the community and make a difference. We're proud to be working with organizations that are setting examples around the globe.
AID FOR AIDS
Zipcar has teamed up with AID FOR AIDS International (AFAI) to pick up unused medication that will be donated to those without access to life-saving HIV drugs in developing countries. AFAI is a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of people in developing countries and immigrants here in the US who are living with HIV/AIDS. Their work empowers people living with this disease, as well as their caregivers, and the community at large, by providing access to medications, health education, HIV prevention strategies and advocacy.
Help support AIDS Walk New York and join the Zipcar team to help raise money to fight this disease! AIDS Walk New York supports the services provided by the GMHC in addition to other organizations representing the entire spectrum of HIV/AIDS services. Zipcar helps this great cause by donating transportation when it's needed. (Although when it comes time to walk, we park and hoof it. We promise.)
Clean Air NY
Clean Air NY is a network of individuals, employers, employees and community organizations in the New York metro area committed to the idea that every person can help clean our air (right up our ally!). The idea is to reduce vehicle miles traveled in the metro area by encouraging simple, alternative travel behaviors such as car sharing (sound familiar?). They even offer real-time Air Quality Action Day Updates, which you can sign up for on their website or by texting CLEAN to 42269 (standard text message rates apply). Clean Air NY is sponsored by the New York State Department of Transportation in support of statewide air-quality efforts, and we also believe in what they are doing.
Zipcar teams up with RightRides For Women's Safety, Inc. to build safer communities by helping to end harassment and sexual assault. With the use of Zipcar, RightRides flagship program offers women, transpeople and gender queer individuals a free, late-night ride home to ensure their safe commute to or through high-risk areas. They also work towards achieving their goals through their SafeWalk program, community organizing and other programs, as well as fostering greater safety awareness and individual empowerment in their related educational programs.
Since its inception in 1957, YAI/National Institute for People with Disabilities Network is the national leader in education and training in the field of developmental and learning disabilities. The YAI/NIPD Network is committed to fulfilling their long-time mission of building brighter futures for individuals with disabilities and their families.

Connect with a community that shares your passion for all things green. Your Garden Show is a social network for gardeners, by gardeners that connects greenthumbs with knowledge, tools and resources for sharing inspiration, best practices for sustainability and real-time environmental observation. They believe that more (and better) gardeners help build stronger local communities. And we happen to agree.
