Zipcar Officially Launches in Farmingdale, N.Y.
Launch marks first Zipcars on Long Island
FARMINGDALE, N.Y., November 17, 2015 – Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, today announced that its “wheels when you want them” service is now available in Farmingdale, N.Y. Two Zipcars are now available for reservation by the hour or by the day, marking the first Zipcar vehicles available on Long Island.
The two Zipcars are parked at the Farmingdale Train Station parking lot west corner in designated spots for convenient pick-up and drop-off. The vehicles can be reserved in seconds on Zipcar’s mobile app, online or over the phone.
“Zipcar is thrilled to be expanding our ‘wheels when you want them’ service to Farmingdale,” said Anthony Fatone, regional general manager of Zipcar New York. “Area residents now have a new accessible transportation option that offers all the benefits of car ownership without the cost and hassles. We’re eager to continue to expand in Farmingdale and throughout Long Island.”
The Zipcar Farmingdale fleet includes a Honda CR-V named “Armond,” perfect for a weekend getaway, and a Mazda 3 dubbed “Maberly” for zipping around town. Each reservation includes gas, insurance and 180 miles of driving per day, making it a great option for those looking for ways to save money on the high cost of car ownership. Zipcar members can reserve and drive vehicles throughout the area or in any one of the hundreds of cities and towns around the world where Zipcar operates, as well as at over 50 airports. Membership information is available at www.zipcar.com.
“With Farmingdale Village becoming one of the premier examples of transit orientated development and Long Island destination spots, we feel the need for an on-demand car sharing service like Zipcar is at a height - especially near our new apartment facilities,” said Mayor Ralph Ekstrand. “Zipcar provides a sustainable and convenient alternative to car ownership. We are proud to have the first Zipcars on Long Island be right here in Farmingdale and believe it will be a home run.”
Local businesses in Farmingdale can benefit from Zipcar’s presence through the Zipcar for Business program that offers discounted driving rates Monday through Friday. The program helps businesses save money, meet environmental sustainability goals and reduce parking requirements by providing employees with access to Zipcar for business needs and other uses.
“As a third generation Farmingdale resident, I am proud to be part of the revitalization of our town, including the launch of Zipcar’s innovative car sharing service, said Anthony Bartone, managing partner, Bartone Properties. “Having Zipcar select Farmingdale as its first Long Island location validates what all of us Dalers already know – Farmingdale’s energy and variety of wonderful amenities makes this a truly great place to live.”
