U.S. General Services Administration Selects Zipcar for Car Sharing Program in Boston, Chicago, New York City and Washington, D.C.

BOSTON – October 3, 2014 – Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, today announced that it has been chosen as a vendor to be awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement by the U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Federal Acquisition Service as a car sharing provider for federal government employees in Boston, Chicago, New York City and Washington, D.C.

The GSA looked at a wide range of car sharing options as part of a pilot program to help federal agencies reduce costs, improve service and optimize their use of vehicles. Zipcar was perceived to be a viable solution to further GSA’s goal of saving money by providing simple and cost-effective transportation and eliminating the need to manage large fleets. The new program will provide access to Zipcar’s wide variety of vehicle makes and models to federal government employees who are currently or will become Zipcar members in these cities.

The GSA’s selection is yet another of Zipcar’s many longstanding relationships with businesses and city governments through the Company’s Zipcar for Business, FastFleet by Zipcar and Zipcar for Government programs.  Municipalities including Boston, Chicago, Houston, New York, Philadelphia, Portland, Ore. and Washington, D.C., among others, have reported significant savings due to efficiencies created by Zipcar’s government and FastFleet programs. Businesses can also benefit from Zipcar’s presence through the Zipcar for Business program that offers discounted driving rates Monday through Friday. The Zipcar for Business program helps businesses save money, further their environmental sustainability efforts and reduce parking requirements by providing employee members with access to Zipcars where they live, work and travel.

“Zipcar is a smart solution that allows federal employees to have membership access to a wide range of vehicles at locations across the city to meet the demands of their job, while also allowing government agencies to reduce transportation costs,” said Kaye Ceille, Zipcar president. “Our convenient, cost- effective and sustainable transportation option provides wheels in a new and innovative way for government workers.”
