Zipcar Officially Launches in Coquitlam, British Columbia

Zipcar’s car sharing service gives Coquitlam residents on-demand access to a vehicle, encouraging a car-lite or car-free lifestyle

Sep 14, 2016

COQUITLAM, B.C., Sept. 14, 2016 – Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, today announced a new partnership with the City of Coquitlam to bring its “wheels when you want them” membership service to area residents, businesses, visitors and students.

Two Zipcars— a Nissan Sentra named “Yoga” and a Hyundai Santa Fe named “Piper” — are now available by the hour or by the day. The vehicles are parked in designated spots at Glen Drive at Pacific Street in Coquitlam for convenient pick-up and drop-off and can be reserved in seconds on Zipcar’s mobile app, online or over the phone. Each reservation includes gas, insurance and 200 kilometers of driving per day, making it a great option for those looking for ways to save money on the high cost of car ownership.

“Zipcar’s launch in Coquitlam is another positive step in providing more commuting options to our residents, visitors, and businesses,” said Coquitlam Mayor Richard Stewart. “With shared car services, such as Zipcar, and the expansion of SkyTrain to Coquitlam, it will be even easier for residents and visitors alike to experience what our city has to offer.”

The official launch in Coquitlam builds on Zipcar’s success in Vancouver, where the company has been operating since 2007. With members using Zipcar nearby, the company was eager expand east to Coquitlam to provide more residents and visitors with convenient access to wheels where they live, work and play. Zipcar members can reserve and drive any one of the nearly 300 vehicles located in greater Vancouver as well as the 12,000 vehicles in the company’s global fleet.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring Zipcar to Coquitlam as part of the city’s growing transportation network,” said Catherine Williams, Zipcar market manager. “Zipcar gives members on-demand access to ‘wheels when they want them’ with a simple tap on the screen of their mobile phone. And the best part is, car sharers are proven to increase their use of other mobility options like walking, biking and public transit after joining, leading to a healthier transportation system overall.”

Local businesses in Coquitlam can also benefit from Zipcar’s presence through the Zipcar for Business (Z4B) program, which offers discounted driving rates Monday through Friday. The Z4B program helps businesses save money, meet environmental sustainability goals and reduce parking requirements by providing employees with access to Zipcar for business needs and other uses.
