Providence Zipcar Members Can Now Drive One Way to Boston

New feature gives members an easy way to travel between Providence and Boston

Oct 25, 2016

PROVIDENCE, R.I., Oct., 25, 2016 - Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, today announced it has added another new feature to its flexible service, which enables members to drive one way from Providence to Boston and vice versa. The new feature gives members the comfort and control of driving to Boston without the hassle of finding and paying for parking.

Six Zipcars in Providence can now go one way to Boston and back. The vehicles are located downtown, as well as T.F. Green Airport and Brown University. Providence-based members can simply reserve a vehicle in the Zipcar app or online up to 30 minutes in advance and choose from over 200 reserved parking locations in Boston for drop-off. Reservations are $5 per half-hour and include gas, maintenance and insurance.

Additional benefits of the new feature include:

·         Ability to change the drop-off location mid-trip

o   Set the end location for the North End and switch it to Back Bay at the last minute. More than 200 end locations in Boston, including Logan Airport.

·         One-way vehicles can also be used for short trips within Providence

o   Pick up a vehicle at Brown University and drop it off downtown, or pick up one downtown and drop it off at T.F. Green Airport.

·         Unlimited reservation extensions

o   Continue the trip for as long as needed right in the app.

“We’re excited to offer our Providence members a more flexible car sharing service, especially our student members who want the option of driving to Boston without bringing the car back,” said Chris Moulding, Zipcar regional marketing manager. “This new feature lets them hop from city to city in the comfort of a car, whether it’s to Logan Airport for a trip home for the weekend, to TD Garden for a concert or for an internship in the Financial District.”

Zipcar first brought its service to Providence in June 2011. Five years later, the fleet has grown to nearly 100 Zipcars in more than forty locations, including all major universities in Rhode Island and several local businesses.
