Peter Cooper and Stuyvesant Town in New York City

NEW YORK, NY—(6/15/04)—Starting today, Peter Cooper Village/Stuyvesant Town (PCV/ST) residents will have access to two rental cars through Zipcar, a non-traditional rental car company that is offering PCV/ST tenants exclusive use of self-service, on-demand cars. Zipcar will locate a Mini Cooper and Honda Element at PCV/ST, and the cars will be available for rent by the hour or by the day 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days of the year.
"We are constantly looking for ways to enhance the lifestyle of Peter Cooper Village and Stuyvesant Town," said Steve Stadmeyer, general manager of the notable Manhattan rental complex. "Zipcar is easy and convenient and we anticipate that it will be well received by our community."
Accessing and using a Zipcar is made easy through the company's patent-pending technology. In minutes or up to a year in advance, members can reserve Zipcars online or by calling 1-866-4ZIPCAR. Once a reservation is made, they simply use a Zipcard, a security card-like device, to unlock the door and drive away.
Arlington County members will also have access to Zipcars in more than 50 locations throughout the metro Washington area as well as hundreds of Zipcar locations in the Boston and New York metropolitan areas.
Zipcar is offering discounted annual membership fees to residents of PCV/ST, who will pay $20 instead of the $175 typically charged. When residents drive the cars, rates will range from $10-$16 per hour and $75-$130 per day, which include the cost of assigned parking, maintenance, insurance and even gas.
"Zipcar is privileged and excited to form a partnership with Peter Cooper Village and Stuyvesant Town in order to bring convenience back into renting a car," said Julian Espiritu, Zipcar regional vice president. "This is a first for residential complexes, and we are glad to offer the property's tenants this great opportunity."
In addition to gaining access to the exclusive Peter Cooper Village/Stuyvesant Town Zipcars, residents will also be able to utilize the company's vehicles throughout the Zipcar network, with locations in New York, New Jersey, Washington D.C., and Boston.
