Zipcar Honored at Mayor Thomas M.
Menino's First Boston Green Business Awards

Recognized for Providing Environmentally Sustainable Service to Boston
Residents and Businesses
Boston, MA (April 19, 2007) — Zipcar,
the world's largest car sharing service, will be honored today at
Mayor Thomas M. Menino's Boston Green Business Awards. Zipcar was
selected as a winner in the 'Green Services" category, recognized
for revolutionizing the way Metro Boston residents and businesses think
about car ownership in the city.
The Boston Green Business Awards were started this year by Mayor Thomas
M. Menino to honor city residents and businesses that are leaders in sustainability
and its practices. The awards ceremony will be held today at 11:00 am
at the Lenox Hotel in Boston.
According to Zipcar CEO Scott Griffith, the honor underscores the benefits
Zipcar is bringing to people who live and work in the city. "Each
Zipcar replaces approximately 20 privately owned vehicles" he said.
'We are proud to be recognized with this group of environmental
innovators and stand side-by-side with the Mayor in his efforts to make
Boston a great place to live for generations to come."
Zipcar currently has more than 550 vehicles in more than 250 locations
throughout Greater Boston. With more than 40% of members reporting that
Zipcar led them to sell or put off purchasing a vehicle, Zipcar estimates
that its service has eliminated more than 5,000 vehicles from the Metro
Boston streets. Zipcar members also report that on average they drive
approximately 4,000 fewer miles each year, individually saving approximately
219 gallons of gasoline.
