community involvement

Being a Zipster isn't just about sharing cars. Our members inspire us to reach out into the community and make a difference. We're proud to be working with organizations that are setting examples around the globe.

Meals on Wheels

www.carebc.ca
Health and Home Care Society of BC operates the Meals on Wheels program in Vancouver. Every weekday between 11am and 1pm, volunteers deliver more than 500 meals (and smiles!) to homebound people, including seniors, caregivers, individuals with chronic or acute medical conditions, individuals recovering from surgery, illness or injury, and even new moms. Lots of Zipcar members answered the call for volunteers—and last year, Zipcar provided free driving time to make their meal deliveries.

BEST (Better Environmentally Sound Transportation)

www.best.bc.ca
When Zipcar Vancouver held its "Drive In" featuring National Geographic's Arctic Tale in November 2007, we also asked members and their friends to take their old cars off the road. The proceeds from the disposal of these old cars went to BEST, an organization that works with individuals and community organizations to champion clean air, safe neighborhoods and environmentally-friendly transportation choices.

Canucks for Kids Fund

canucks.nhl.com
The Canucks for Kids Fund dedicates resources to assist charities who support children's health and wellness, foster the development of grassroots hockey, and facilitate and encourage education in British Columbia. Through a variety of programs in which Canucks players and employees participate, the team joins with Canucks fans and other sponsors to raise funds. In 2008, Zipcar members in Vancouver were able to drive specially-wrapped Canucks Zipcars, and we donated $0.25 for every hour driven to the Fund.
