Acts of Kindness with Zipcar
Random Acts of Kindness day is celebrated every year on the 17th of February, to highlight simple acts everyone can incorporate into their daily lives to make the world a kinder place. We know our members use our cars and vans for all kinds of good deeds across our city and in their communities all year round, so we decided to highlight a few below. Why not get thinking about how you can bring some brightness into someone else's day?
Keeping London warm
Every year Hands on London run their WrapUp London campaign, collecting coats from those who don't need them anymore, and redistributing to those that do. Last year Zipcar helped out their resident van volunteer Jimmy, by moving the donated coats from collection points to storage units and sorting hubs. Hands on London makes it incredibly easy to find volunteering opportunities in your local area, so why not give it a go?
Helping out the local Food Bank
When Chris Phillips, Parish priest and Vicar of Willesden discovered his local Food Bank's van had been stolen, he jumped in his local Zipcar to help transport donations to the foodbank. A frequent supporter of the Brent Food Bank, we couldn't think of a kinder way to spend those spare moments of your week by helping those most in need.
Emergency food, support and advice
Wandsworth Foodbank needs no introduction as to their incredible work across local communities. But did you know large amounts of the transport of donations and supplies is done by volunteers? People like Sammy took some of their time every week during the pandemic to "take 7-day food supplies to every family and individual referred to us in severe hardship, all with kindness and respect."
Christmas dinner drive
ONQOR Group, a Marketing agency in London, used their Christmas Party food budget in a whole new way. Throwing out the rule book on a traditional Christmas party, the team spent two days donating to Food Banks across London to ensure as many people as possible could have a warm meal over the festive season. A massive (Santa) hats off to the team at ONQOR, who have got us thinking about how we will be celebrating at our next staff party....
Lending a helping hand
A little while back, Omer spent a day lending a helping hand to his friends. Renting a Zipcar van, loading and offloading the contents of their home to help them move, and not forgetting an IKEA trip to top it all off! We can't deny the picture made us smile and during a stressful home move, everyone needs someone like this in their life.
It takes a village
Little Village passes on donated toys, clothes and equipment to families most in need for their young children, and has supported over 17,000 since it started back in 2016. Their work for local communities and support systems they provide is invaluable, all made possible by the volunteers that help them. Local community donation drives are often organised by volunteer drivers, like Peter who you can see in the picture alongside Bonyo who is the site manager of the school where the drive took place. If you have some spare items or even some spare time, why not get involved?
