Getting ready for the drive-in

There’s never been a better time to indulge our desire to live out Grease and go to a proper American Style Drive In. But how will you make this extra special? Here’s a list of things to think about to ensure you have a great time…

Food and drink

Food and drink

Most drive ins will have socially distanced catering on site, but it’s good to check whether you can bring your own food and drinks into the venue as this varies by event. Even if you aren’t it’s worth sneaking in a few of your favourite chocolates or sweets.

Dress comfortable

Dress comfortable

The beauty of the drive in is that you arrive in a car, you watch the movie in the car and then you leave in the car. Meaning you can wear whatever you want. That joggers / leggings and hoody combo you’ve been in for the last 4 months is absolutely fine…

Blankets and cushions

Blankets and cushions

You’re going to be in the car with the engine off, so wrap up warm and make sure you're comfortable with a few cushions and blanket, it will be much needed if the temperature drops. Plus being cosy is the best.

Bring chairs

Bring chairs

You're not allowed to roam too far from your car but most of the drive ins have a little area to the side where you can sit out. You will need to bring your own chairs, but then you can sit out and watch the movie under the night sky.

Bring a portable radio

You get given an FM frequency to tune in to as you enter, so once you’re inside you will be able to tune in and follow the audio. There is also an option to listen through phone apps. You can choose to listen on your car stereo but you can’t have your engine during the performance, so it’s either app, portable radio or flat battery.

Put your phones away

We know the draw of insta can be insatiable at times but treat it like you’re at the cinema, so phones are away (unless they’re being used for audio) and you’re engaged with the performance.

Book your car well ahead of schedule
