Nominate Your Neighbourhood Heroes - Winners

Whether it’s shopping for a neighbour, sharing advice with a friend or supporting your household with childcare or chores, we're all helping each other where we can at this time. That’s why we gave you the opportunity to say thank you to someone that's making a difference in your life, or the lives of others by nominating your at-home hero for their chance to win one of ten bespoke thank you packages.

We were inundated with entries, so much so that we even doubled the amount of prizes! Every single one was uplifting and they were such wonderful stories we wanted to share these with you too. Here's the stories from some of our winners:

"I'd like to nominate my amazing partner Joey de la Peña who is an ICU Nurse at St Thomas Hospital working hard to care for and treat as many Covid-19 patients as possible. He'd also been staying away from our home for more than 8 weeks as I was diagnosed with cancer just before Christmas last year and currently undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Joey is absolutely deserving for a treat like this and like other ICU Nurses, he's been working incredibly hard in such trying conditions."

"My husband has been a hero throughout the crisis. Doing his day job as a surgeon, operating on and taking care of Covid-19 patients as well as being a loud advocate of the issues regarding PPE shortages facing the key workers. He has taken it upon himself to try and solve this shortage by spending hours on his few days off or between shifts to develop a reusable mask made from a scuba mask to protect the front line. He managed to raise £150,000 and help deliver 3000 masks free of cost to the front line, all while continuing to do his daily NHS job. Best of all he never loses his smile or his empathy and love for his patients. He is my true hero."

"Since it was announce that the elderly are advised to lockdown, my Mother travelled from Yorkshire to London to look after her Mum (my Gran) who is 98 years old and lives on her own in a small caravan home. This means my Mum was separated from her husband and self-isolated with my Gran for over 10 weeks. She misses my Dad (and me) so much but she’s willing to sacrifice that freedom to ensure my Gran has been looked after and doesn’t feel lonely or anxious during this time. She has been an absolute rock for my Gran and without my Mum being their to support her, the whole lockdown would have been a different story for my Gran."
