Zipcar announced today that it has expanded to 100 more universities and colleges over the past year, bringing the company’s total campus footprint to more than 600 throughout North America. This growth stems from an increase in the number of campuses interested in offering a car-free or car-light lifestyle to the student population.

Zipcar is pleased to announce its signature on Mayor Walsh’s 100% Talent Compact, a first-in-the-nation, business community-driven effort to level the playing field for working women. By signing the 100% Talent Compact, we have joined forces with the Boston Women’s Workforce Council, a public-private partnership between the City of Boston and Boston University, and nearly 200 other Boston-area employers to close the gender wage gap.

Zipcar is excited to kick off its partnership with the City of Santa Barbara with a ten-car launch this week. Ten Zipcars are parked in designated spots throughout Santa Barbara, including one each in City Garages 10 and 6 and two at the Amtrak Depot lot. The official launch in Santa Barbara builds on a successful program in Los Angeles, where approximately 300 Zipcars are available in more than 200 locations throughout Los Angeles and Orange County.

A recent Zipcar survey found that nearly 40 percent of Americans nationwide say that the first day of spring is their moment in time to roll the car windows down and start to enjoy the season. So, to encourage people to embrace this change in weather and spirit, Zipcar declared the first day of spring, which this year fell on Monday, March 20, “Windows Down Day.” Celebrating Windows Down Day is simple: windows down, radio up.

New York’s Governor Cuomo announced that the Metro-North Railroad has teamed up with Zipcar for its four-phase Ride2Drive program. The 14-car launch will provide transportation options for both New Yorkers and tourists by placing Zipcars at Metro-North stations in Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven. The goal of this program is to provide a convenient and affordable way to extend travel past transit stops. Zipcars will allow travelers to venture into the suburbs, shop, or sightsee without the hassles of personal car ownership.
