Zipcar’s Most Flexible Service Yet with One-way Option Launches in Washington, D.C. Metro

Zipcar’s new comprehensive mobility solution will give D.C. Zipcar members the option to take vehicles round-trip, one-way within the metro area and between cities, with parking included

Jun 8, 2016

Washington D.C., June 8, 2016 – Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, today announced that it has launched a suite of new features to its service in Washington, D.C. including the ability to take vehicles one-way and between D.C. and Baltimore. These new features blend the best of Zipcar’s round-trip model — guaranteed parking, more than 50 vehicle types and advanced reservations — with the spontaneity and freedom of new flexible options.

Zipcar’s new flexible service will now enable members in and around the District to:

• Choose the destination: Designated vehicles can be used either one-way within the greater metro area or round-trip, with parking included, providing members a variety of trip options.

• Travel between cities: This new service will allow members in the District and Baltimore to take trips between cities.

• Change destination mid-trip: Members can reserve a vehicle that can be returned to a different end destination as plans change during a trip, providing the freedom to enjoy the journey.

• Extend reservations: Members can continue the trip for as long as they choose.

“The ‘most flexible Zipcar yet’ is the perfect addition to our service in the Washington D.C. area,” said Anthony Fatone regional vice president, Zipcar. “Whether our members want to take a car from Anacostia to the Navy Yard and leave it there, go from home in Arlington to Downtown for the day and back or even go between D.C. and Baltimore, Zipcar’s new flexible features will equip our members with more freedom and spontaneity, without the hassle or stress of having to look for parking.”

At launch, Zipcar’s new offering will consist of 200 Honda vehicles, including the Honda Fit and Honda Civic. As a trusted mobility partner, additional Honda vehicles will be added into the service as it evolves.  The cars are now available for reservation and are parked in easily accessible locations, including throughout Downtown, Georgetown, Anacostia, Bethesda, Arlington and more.

Zipcar’s new flexible features build on the company’s presence in Washington D.C., where now more than 1,000 Zipcars are available in more than 450 locations. Zipcar members can reserve and drive vehicles throughout greater D.C. or in any one of the hundreds of cities and towns or more than 60 airports around the world where Zipcar operates.  To join and get on the road in minutes, download the Zipcar mobile app.

Zipcar first announced this suite of new flexible features early this year as a significant expansion to its pioneering service that represents the company’s next generation of mobility services. Zipcar’s “most flexible service yet” is now available in Boston, Denver, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and the service will continue to expand to new cities throughout 2016 and 2017.
