Zipcar Launches Service on Cape Cod
Zipcar’s convenient and cost-effective service provides area visitors with on-demand access to a vehicle without the hassles of travelling with one
BOSTON, June 14, 2016 – Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, today announced a new partnership with the Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority (CCRTA) to bring its “wheels when you want them” membership service to Cape Cod with two vehicles available at the Hyannis Transportation Center. Area visitors, residents and seasonal vacationers can now take the CapeFLYER seasonal rail or the CCRTA bus service from a variety of locations to the Hyannis Transportation Center to pick-up a Zipcar without having to sit behind the wheel in notorious Cape traffic.
In addition, Zipcar has added two vehicles at the Steamship Authority in Falmouth. These vehicles are great for use by local residents or visitors, including those from Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket looking to reserve a car for a few hours.
In total four vehicles are available now for reservation by the hour or by the day and are parked in designated spots for convenient pick-up and drop-off. The Zipcars can be accessed in minutes by joining through the Zipcar mobile app. Each reservation includes gas, insurance and 180 miles of driving per day, making it a great option for those looking for ways to have access to a car for the weekend or for a few hours to get out and explore.
“Zipcar is thrilled to be expanding our ‘wheels when you want them’ service to Cape Cod,” said Jeremy Pomp, regional general manager of Zipcar. “Area visitors and residents now have all the benefits of car ownership without the cost and hassles of having to travel with one. Take the CapeFLYER down to the Cape and grab a Zipcar for just the time you need it.”
Zipcar’s launch on Cape Cod builds on successful programs throughout New England that include over 1,200 vehicles. With a large number of Boston and Providence residents already using Zipcar in other locations, the company was eager to provide members with convenient access to wheels when they vacation on Cape Cod. Zipcar members can reserve and drive vehicles throughout New England or in any one of the hundreds of cities and towns around the world where Zipcar operates as well as at over 60 airports.
“CCRTA is happy to partner with Zipcar,” said Thomas S. Cahir CCRTA administrator. “It is our intention to provide a multi-modal network here at the Hyannis Transportation Center and provide a variety of transportation alternatives to residents and visitors. We want to encourage mobility on the Cape while simultaneously reducing the need for more cars.”
Prospective members can join the service and start driving instantly on Zipcar’s mobile app. For more information on Zipcar on Cape Cod please visit: www.zipcar.com/CapeCod.
