Zipcar Officially Launches in Downtown Kansas City
Partnership with City expands Zipcar’s convenient and cost-effective mobility solution to city residents and visitors in downtown area
KANSAS CITY, October, 24, 2016 – Zipcar, the world’s leading car-sharing network, today announced a new partnership with the City of Kansas City to bring its “wheels when you want them” membership service to the downtown area providing additional mobility options to residents, businesses, visitors and students.
A total of eight Zipcars, available for reservation by the hour or by the day, are now parked in easily accessible locations throughout downtown Kansas City in popular locations such as Union Station, Crossroad and Rivermarket. The vehicles are parked in designated spots for convenient pick-up and drop-off and can be accessed in minutes by downloading the Zipcar app and signing up.
The Zipcar Kansas City fleet features a variety of makes and models, including a Subaru Crosstrek named “Royal” that comes equipped with a Yakima bike rack and is great for a weekend getaway, a Nissan Versa dubbed “Scout” to zip around town, or a Jeep Renegade called “Chief” for a night out with friends. Each reservation includes gas, insurance and 180 miles of driving per day, making it a great option for those looking for ways to save money on the high cost of car ownership.
“Zipcar is thrilled to be partnering with the city to expand our service to the downtown area,” said, Nef Albino, regional general manager of Zipcar. “Area residents now have all the benefits of car ownership without the cost and hassles, while helping the city alleviate parking demand and reduce CO2 emissions.”
Zipcar’s launch in Kansas City builds on successful programs at the University of Missouri, Kansas City and at Kansas City International Airport. With a large number of Kansas City residents already using Zipcar, the company was eager to provide members with convenient access in the downtown area where many residents live, work and play. Zipcar members can reserve and drive vehicles throughout Kansas City or in any one of the hundreds of cities and towns around the world where Zipcar operates as well as at over 60 airports.
“This unique service will certainly add tremendous benefit and mobility options to our downtown corridor,” said Mayor Sly James. “We’ve got more people living downtown than ever before and more people are in the process of making the move. I’m grateful Zipcar has chosen to expand downtown and I’m excited to see the increased connectivity and mobility of our residents.”
In addition, local businesses in Kansas City can benefit from Zipcar’s presence through the Zipcar for Business (Z4B) program that offers discounted driving rates Monday through Friday. The Z4B program helps businesses save money, meet environmental sustainability goals and reduce parking requirements by providing employees with access to Zipcar for business needs and other uses.
Prospective members can join the service and start driving in minutes through Zipcar’s mobile app. For more information on Zipcar in Kansas City please visit: www.zipcar.com.
