Zipcar’s Most Flexible Service Yet Launches in Los Angeles

Zipcar’s new comprehensive mobility solution will give L.A. Zipcar members greater freedom

Mar 3, 2016

LOS ANGELES, March 3, 2016 – Zipcar, the world’s leading car sharing network, today announced that it has launched a suite of new features to its service in Los Angeles. These new features blend the b  of Zipcar’s round-trip model — guaranteed parking, more than 50 vehicle types and advanced reservations — with the spontaneity and freedom of new flexible features.

Zipcar members in Los Angeles will be the first in the country to experience Zipcar’s new flexible service, which will allow members to:

  • Choose the destination: Designated vehicles can be used either one-way or round trip, with parking included, providing members a variety of trip options.
  • Change destination mid-trip: Members can reserve a vehicle that can be returned to a different end destination as plans change during a trip, providing the freedom to enjoy the journey
  • Extend reservations indefinitely: Members can continue the trip for as long as they choose.

“The ‘most flexible Zipcar yet’ is the perfect addition to our service in Los Angeles,” said Michael Uribe, regional vice president, Zipcar. “Whether our members want to take a car from Downtown to the airport and leave it there, or go from home in West Hollywood to Santa Monica for the day and back, Zipcar’s new flexible features will equip our members with more freedom and spontaneity, while also benefitting the city as it works to improve mobility in Los Angeles.”

At launch, Zipcar’s new flexible offering will consist solely of select Honda vehicles, including the Honda Fit, the fuel-efficient, versatile and fun subcompact that can fit up to five people and their gear. As a trusted mobility partner, additional Honda vehicles will be added into the service as it evolves. The 150 cars are now available for reservation and are parked in easily accessible locations, including Apex and Pegasus Apartments Downtown, USC, UCLA, and LAX. The vehicles can be reserved in seconds on Zipcar’s mobile app, online or over the phone.

Zipcar’s new flexible features build on the company’s presence in Los Angeles, where more than 500 Zipcars are available in more than 175 locations in the greater Los Angeles area, including West Hollywood, Hollywood, UCLA, USC, and at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Zipcar members can reserve and drive vehicles throughout greater Los Angeles or in any one of the hundreds of cities and towns or more than 60 airports around the world where Zipcar operates.  To join Zipcar instantly, download the Zipcar mobile app on iTunes or Google Play.

Zipcar first announced this suite of new flexible features on February 25, 2016, a significant expansion to its pioneering service that represents the company’s next generation of mobility services.  The roll out begins with today’s announcement in Los Angeles and will continue in select North American markets throughout the year.
