Meet the VW Transporter

Helpful Tips for the Transporter
How to start the vehicle?
Keep the clutch fully depressed and turn the key in the ignition.
How to disengage the steering wheel lock?
Keep the clutch depressed and wiggle the steering wheel from left to right while turning the key in the ignition.
How to put the car into drive, reverse and park?
For drive, move the gearstick left then up. For reverse, lift the collar on the gear stick (just below the knob) then move the gearstick left and up. For park, move the gearstick to the centre so it is out of gear then press the button on the end of the handbrake and raise the lever to engage the parking brake.
How to adjust the wing mirrors?
The mirrors are adjusted using a joystick positioned above the window switches in the driver's door. The joystick can be twisted to adjust the left and right mirrors, then simply pushed to move the mirror in the corresponding direction.
How to use the headlights and turn signals?
Use the round switch to the left of the steering wheel. 0 is for off. AUTO is for automatic headlight control. (picture of side lights) is for when the side lights are switched on with the ignition on or off. (picture headlight) headlights are switched on. All the settings will switch off when ignition is off apart from the sidelights. Turn signal is to the left of the steering wheel. Down for left and up for right.
Where is the fuel card?
Open driverside door and look to the side of the dashboard, where you will find the fuel card in a white sleeve. Look towards the door hinges / door jamb.
How to release the fuel door?
Open the passenger door (the door must remain open in order to access the fuel cap) - push the metal panel open to revel the fuel cap. Make sure you check which fuel your van takes before refuelling.
How to use the windscreen wipers?
To operate the windscreen wipers, use the lever to the right of the steering wheel. Push the lever up to engage the wipers and further up for faster speeds.
How do I release the boot?
Use the key - there is no internal release.

Are there any restrictions on where the VW Transporter can go?
It's a member’s responsibility to always obey the Highway Code when driving any of our vehicles, which includes any signage warning against restrictions on vehicle dimensions or weight. The Gross Vehicle Weight of our VW Transporters is 2.8 tonnes and the dimensions of the full vehicle are 489cm (L) x 224.2cm (W) x 196.9cm (H). As the vehicles weight is over 2 tonnes, it is restricted from travelling through some areas, most notably the Rotherhithe Tunnel in London, and failure to obey any restrictions will result in a Penalty Charge Notice.
How big is the boot space of the van?
The approximate loading dimensions are: 235cm (L) x 148cm (W) x 130cm (H)
