The Best Dog-Friendly Places To Escape With Your Furry Friend in These Cities

Few companions are better than your pet, and you can visit plenty of places in cities across the United States with your pup at your side. If you live in these five major cities, check out these dog parks and other dog-friendly places that give you and your furry friend an opportunity to get outdoors and burn some energy together. 

Belle Isle Marsh Reservation in East Boston 

Belle Isle Marsh Reservation is an urban nature preserve and public recreation area that features plenty of dog-friendly trails. The 350-acre reservation features Boston's largest salt marsh and is known as one of the last truly natural areas you can visit in the Boston area.  

When visiting Belle Isle Marsh Reservation, you and your pup can explore the area's many bridges, walkways, paths and lookout towers. The area is also a known habitat for plenty of species of birds and fish. This park is closed to the public in the evening with daily hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. 

Montrose Dog Beach in Chicago 

When it comes to dog-friendly beaches, Montrose Dog Beach is one of the best in America. This dog-friendly area is free to use and is open every day from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. 

It features a broad sandy beach, which is the perfect place to play fetch or Frisbee with your pup, as well as a shallow shoreline that's great for dipping your feet in the water or letting your dog cool off with a nice swim. The beach is just a short drive from the city — less than 15 minutes from downtown Chicago and near the juncture of Wilson Avenue and Lake Michigan.  

Swampoodle Dog Park & Playground in D.C. 

Swampoodle Dog Park & Playground in D.C. offers a clean and safe place for you and your furry friend to visit. It's packed with open spaces that are ideal for playing fetch or chase, as well as climbing structures to challenge your dog and keep it fit. Swampoodle features plenty of public seating for owners to take a load off, and trees and other flora make the space beautiful and natural. 

The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is free to visit. 

Glen Canyon Park in San Francisco 

Glen Canyon Park is a 66.6-acre natural area that offers San Francisco residents a place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. It features plenty of dog-friendly walking trails and hiking trails as well as wide open spaces for your pup to run around.  

This natural area features a deep canyon that runs right through it, making it one of the more beautiful dog-friendly parks to visit in the United States. 

Gerritsen Avenue Beach in New York 

Gerritsen Avenue Beach is in South Brooklyn. This dog-friendly beach is known as the local swimming hole.  It's also a well-kept secret among New York City and Brooklyn locals.  

The beach is located along the Plumb Beach Channel and is on the outskirts of a quiet residential area. Those looking to visit can do so for free.
