Reserve, drive, earn, return

Sign up to drive with Uber and select Zipcar as your vehicle option. Zipcars can be reserved by the hour. Uber driver-partners who haven’t rented with Zipcar before are eligible for special rental rates. Gas, 24/7 roadside assistance, and up to 180 miles per day are included. Zipcars in Uber's Vehicle Marketplace in the Uber app are ready to be driven on the Uber platform.

Here's how it works:

  1. Sign up as a driver in the Uber app or on Uber’s website and select Zipcar as the hourly option.

  2. Reserve your Zipcar with your mobile device using the free iPhone® or Android™ app.

  3. Arrive at your reserved Zipcar and use the unlock feature on the Zipcar app to get into the car.

  4. Begin accepting Uber trips using the Uber app.

  5. When your Zipcar reservation ends, return your Zipcar to its home location.

No long-term contracts, no upfront costs to rent, and cars are available from locations all over the city.

Drive when you want to make money with Uber, and pay Zipcar when you want to rent.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I sign up?

To get started, sign up in the Uber app or on Uber’s website as a driver. Once you’ve completed the Uber signup process, you can visit the Uber's Vehicle Marketplace in the Uber app and select Zipcar as the hourly option. From there, you can apply to be a Zipcar Member and, once approved, you can book a Zipcar and begin accepting Uber trips.

How do I pick a Zipcar?

Once you’re approved as a Zipcar Member, you can reserve any eligible Zipcar whenever you’d like to drive. You’ll log in to your Zipcar account and select the eligible car. Then simply access the Zipcar using the Zipcar app.

How much does it cost?

It’s free to sign up as an Uber driver-partner, and there are no upfront fees to rent a Zipcar. When driving on the Uber app, Zipcars can be reserved by the hour. Rates start at $5.50 per hour during the week (Mon-Fri) and $9 per hour on the weekends (Sat-Sun). Zipcar Members are also responsible for paying a mileage fee of $0.45 per mile after the first 180 miles. Any tolls, parking costs (when parking at locations outside of the Zipcar home space), tickets, or fines are the responsibility of the Zipcar Member.

The rental rates are only available if you drive with Uber for ridesharing and not with any other Uber service such as Uber Eats or Uber Health. If you aren’t driving with Uber for ridesharing, you won’t be eligible to participate in this program.

What's included?

Zipcar provides access to a variety of vehicles that you can use to drive with Uber. Zipcar performs regular vehicle maintenance and provides a parking space for each car. Zipcar reservations are made by the hour and include gas and insurance as specified below.

When using a Zipcar to drive with Uber (meaning the Uber app is on or you’re active on an Uber trip), Uber’s insurance policy will apply (see details). At all other times when driving a Zipcar, Zipcar’s insurance will apply. Learn more here.

Each Zipcar comes with Uber trade dress (for the front and back), which can be found in the glove compartment of the vehicle. Zipcar’s policy is that drivers are responsible for returning these decals to the glove compartment of the vehicle at the end of every reservation. If your Zipcar does not contain Uber trade dress, call Zipcar Member services at 866-4ZIPCAR (866-494-7227). Report any missing items to Zipcar at the start of your reservation.

Where can I drive?

Zipcar is available for Uber driver-partners in Baltimore. Eligible Zipcars can be found throughout Baltimore, however not every Zipcar in the city is eligible to drive on the Uber app. Once you sign up as an Uber driver-partner, the Zipcar app will show only those vehicles that are eligible to be driven with Uber.

Can I use my existing Zipcar membership?

This offer is only available to new Zipcar Members who sign up to use Zipcar to drive with Uber. Current Zipcar Members cannot use their memberships to drive with Uber; however, an option for existing Zipcar Members will be coming soon.

How do I book a Zipcar?

You must be a new Zipcar Member and cleared to drive with Uber. To get started, sign up to drive with Uber here

When reserving, you’ll be able to choose your car, the hours you want to rent, and the pickup location. Zipcar has 2 easy ways for you to reserve: using your mobile device with the free iPhone or Android app, or online through the Zipcar website. Just be sure to always have your phone so you can access your Zipcar and manage your reservation.

How do I start my Zipcar reservation?

Once you reserve, you’ll receive a confirmation email with directions for finding your Zipcar. You can also find these same details on your Zipcar mobile app.

<>When you arrive at the vehicle, use the unlock feature on the Zipcar app to get into the car. The key is already inside the Zipcar and should always remain there. (Lock and unlock the car as needed with the Zipcar app.)

Zipcar provides Uber trade dress in the glove compartment of each preapproved Zipcar vehicle. The Uber trade dress must be clearly displayed in the front and rear windshields when you’re driving with Uber. At the end of your reservation, return these items to the Zipcar glove compartment. Failure to return the items may result in a charge from Zipcar.

What do I need to know during my reservation?

Zipcar offers 6 simple rules to help make sure you have a successful rental:

  1. Report damage (and inspect the car): Before you start driving, inspect your Zipcar inside and out. Be sure to check for damage, fuel (at least a quarter-tank), and car cleanliness and report any issues you find. If you have questions about the vehicle, please call 866-4ZIPCAR (866-494-7227).

  2. Keep it clean: Zipcar Members are expected to leave each vehicle reasonably clean and ready for the next Member.

  3. No smoking in a Zipcar: Smoking isn’t allowed in Zipcars, as it damages the cars and can impact the health of other Members.

  4. Fill ’er up: While gas is included, Members are responsible for filling up the Zipcar and returning it with at least a quarter-tank of gas. Zipcar provides a gas card, so it’s easy to do.

  5. Return on time: The key to car-sharing success is returning on time. Late Members can end up affecting others who have the next reservation.

  6. Pets must travel in carriers: Pets can only travel in a Zipcar if they’re kept in a carrier.

How does insurance work?

When using a Zipcar to drive with Uber (meaning the Uber app is on or you are active on an Uber trip), Uber’s insurance policy will apply. At all other times when driving a Zipcar, Zipcar’s insurance will apply.

If you’re already covered by other vehicle insurance, you agree that that vehicle insurance will be the primary insurance, with any insurance listed below to be secondary.

If you’re not otherwise covered by vehicle insurance, then the following insurance will apply in the periods indicated. To obtain coverage in the event of a claim, you have a duty to fully cooperate, and you must be in compliance with all other Uber and Zipcar terms and conditions.

How do I extend my reservation?

You can extend your reservation using the Zipcar app. When viewing the Current Trip tab, select Time, and you’ll be able to extend your reservation, provided no one has reserved the car immediately after your current reservation ends. You can also extend your reservation by text message by signing up to receive SMS alerts. Learn more about enabling alerts.

If you’re unable to extend, please return your vehicle on time because it means someone has the car after you. In the unfortunate circumstance that you’ll be late, notify Zipcar as soon as you know by calling 866-494-7227, so that they can inform the next driver.

How do I end my reservation?

Leave the Zipcar ready for the next Member by taking all your belongings (and trash) with you and leaving at least a quarter-tank of gas (a gas card is in the vehicle for your use). Make sure to return the Uber trade dress to the vehicle’s glove compartment.

Return your Zipcar to its home location or as instructed in your confirmation details.

To successfully complete your reservation, Zipcar requires that you return the car on time and to the right location. The Uber trade dress must be returned to the glove compartment. End the reservation by locking the doors with the Zipcar mobile app.

Zipcar will send you an email in a few hours with your final rental details.

How do I cancel my Zipcar membership?
