Shared-Use Mobility Center Announces “Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda” Supported by Zipcar and Transportation Industry Allies

The Shared-Use Mobility Center (SUMC), a national, public-interest organization working to foster collaboration in shared transportation, recently announced the “Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda,” a seven-point plan to advance shared mobility to confront the climate crisis, redress inequality in communities, and ease the financial burden of personal transportation.

As a founding member of SUMC, Zipcar joins public and private industry partners to advance the Shared Mobility 2030 Action Agenda so that equitable, low-carbon shared mobility will be more convenient, affordable, and accessible than owning a personal vehicle car. The actions needed to advance sustainable and equitable shared mobility are ones Zipcar has been driving forward for the past twenty years and plans to further until we reach our vision where more vehicles are shared than owned.

Our Commitment to Advancing Shared Mobility

“Founded in 2000, Zipcar's mission is to enable simple and responsible urban living by eliminating the need for personally-owned vehicles,” said Angelo Adams, Head of Zipcar. “We share a vision with our members, cities, and policymakers across the globe for a more sustainable and equitable future for urban living and will collaborate with our partners to advance the Shared Mobility Action Agenda.”

Zipcar Drives Shared Mobility Forward in Cities Nationwide

Zipcar operates in hundreds of cities, and our partnerships with New York City's "On-Street Carshare" program, Pittsburg's "Move PGH" program, and  “Sacramento's "Our Community Car Share" programare a few tangible examples of how we support SUMC’s Shared Mobility Action Agenda” by driving more sustainable and equitable access to shared transportation.

Additionally, we know from the Zipcar Impact Report that Zipcar has helped people rethink private car ownership by offering a more responsible, sustainable, and equitable transportation option. Zipcar’s model of round-trip car sharing is proven to reduce the number of personally-owned vehicles on city streets, leading to significant and distinct social and environmental benefits including reduced congestion, increased curb space, fewer personal carbon emissions, and fewer vehicle miles traveled, and affordable access to a vehicle for people who need one, to name a few.

As we look towards 2030, Zipcar imagines a world where car-sharing outnumbers car-ownership and our mission – to enable simple and responsible urban living by eliminating car ownership – becomes a reality.
